In accordance with the Federal Law, Article 2071 was added to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation establishing liability for public distribution of deliberately misleading information about circumstances that pose a threat to the life and safety of citizens, in particular, emergencies related to epidemics, as well as on measures that are taken to ensure the safety of people and territories, preventive measures and tools.
In addition, Article 2072 was added to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation establishing liability for public distribution of deliberately misleading socially important information that resulted in grave consequences due to negligence.
In order to protect citizens from the spread of infectious diseases, amendments have been made to Article 236 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation that criminalises the violation of sanitary and epidemiological rules. In particular, it establishes liability for violating such rules not only if the violation results in the mass spread of a disease due to negligence, but also if the violator created a threat of a mass spread of a disease.
Relevant amendments have been made to Articles 31 and 151 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation.
