Amendments have been introduced into the Federal Law On the Main Guarantees of Voting Rights of the Citizens of the Russian Federation and the Right to Take Part in Referendums, On Elections of the President of the Russian Federation, and On Elections of Deputies of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. These amendments are designed to tailor the provisions of the above federal laws to the Law of the Russian Federation on the Amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation On Improving the Regulation of Certain Issues of the Organisation and Functioning of Public Authorities.
In particular, the Federal Law sets additional requirements for presidential candidates and Russian citizens who are eligible for election to the State Duma. In addition, it specifies provisions linked with the restriction on holding the post of President of the Russian Federation for more than two terms, and limits the age of the Chairperson of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation.
