Among other things, the discussion covered the situation in automotive industry. According to Mr Artamonov, Volkswagen has recently launched an engine-making plant in Kaluga. Also operating in the region are Mitsubishi and Peugeot-Citroën, while the total number of car manufacturers in the region is 31.
The pharmaceutical industry is also developing. Four major factories will open this year alone, including a large factory run by AstraZeneca.
Investment in the region amounted to 100 billion rubles last year. The Governor noted that Russian investors are active both in industry and agro-industrial complex. More than half of the new major facilities to be commissioned are Russian.
