The four leaders continued discussing ways of settling the serious crisis in Ukraine. In particular, Mr Putin stressed the need to extend the ceasefire and also establish a reliable mechanism for monitoring the ceasefire, with the OSCE playing an active part.
The four leaders spoke in favour of moving quickly to organise a third round of consultations between representatives of Kiev and the southeast regions.
An agreement was reached to have the four countries’ foreign ministers make rapid contact in order to start taking practical steps following from the issues discussed during the telephone conversation.
