During the videoconference, the Chief of Staff criticised the new breach of deadlines to modernise the airport. Mr Ivanov compared the delay with sabotage and noted that during its inspection, the Presidential Control Directorate discovered a shortage of labour resources and a number of other shortcomings in reconstruction of Yelizovo.
Mr Ivanov stressed that the airport is the only way to ensure stable air connection with the mainland and is of special importance for increasing the region’s investment appeal, particularly to ensure smooth operation of Kamchatka priority development area (PDA).
Taking part in the meeting were Presidential Aide and Chief of the Presidential Control Directorate Konstantin Chuychenko, Head of the Federal Agency for Air Transport Alexander Neradko, Kamchatka Territory Governor Vladimir Ilyukhin, and representatives of the Federal Agency for Special Construction (Spetsstroy) and Almaz-Antey Concern.
Modernisation of Yelizovo complex was to be completed in September 2014. The revised plan envisages commissioning of the facility on June 1, 2016. The reconstruction will make it possible to increase Yelizovo airport capacity and achieve higher flight safety.
