Condolences to President of the Republic of Belarus

This evening, Dmitry Medvedev called President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to express his deep condolences following the tragedy in the Minsk metro, where dozens of people were killed and injured by an explosion.

Russia sincerely empathises with the pain of the terrible losses from the tragedy that has befallen the brotherly people of Belarus. Dmitry Medvedev asked Alexander Lukashenko to pass on his words of support to families of the victims, and his wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured. The Russian leader stressed Russia’s readiness to provide all necessary help and assistance.

Russia is ready to offer all necessary assistance to victims of the terrorist attack; this includes accepting, if necessary, patients to be treated in Russian hospitals. Healthcare and Social Development Minister Tatyana Golikova Golikova Tatyana Golikova TatyanaDeputy Prime Minister has been given the necessary instructions.

The President of Russia offered the Belarusian side all the assistance needed to investigate this crime and find those who organised and carried out the terrorist attack. Dmitry Medvedev also expressed support for more active cooperation between the two nations’ security agencies in order to help Belarusian colleagues investigate this crime and track down those responsible. Corresponding instructions have been given to the Federal Security Services Director Alexander Bortnikov Bortnikov Alexander Bortnikov AlexanderDirector of the Federal Security Service .

The President of Russia emphasised that regardless of the source or motivation for the terrorist attack, it is a very serious crime that led to the death of innocent people.
