The President of France gave a positive assessment of the Russian side's plans to withdraw its reinforced peace keeping brigade to the security zone, to South Ossetia and to Russia within the agreed time frame.
Dmitry Medvedev and Nicolas Sarkozy discussed some issues related to implementing the fifth principle (on security measures) of the conflict resolution principles that were agreed on 12 August 2008 in Moscow. Mr Medvedev affirmed Russia’s readiness to work together with the OSCE in accordance with point five of the six-point peace agreement, but the conversation did not touch on the question of having OSCE forces replace Russian peacekeepers in the security zone.
The two Presidents also discussed cooperation between Russia and France in the UN Security Council for the accelerated adoption of a resolution relating to these conflict resolution principles and cooperation between Russia and the EU. The heads of state agreed to maintain regular contacts.
The conversation took place at French initiative.
