Mr Medvedev said he was very pleased with the meeting’s outcome and noted that Russian-Cuban cooperation has become more intensive of late and is producing concrete results.
Mr Medvedev and Mr Castro laid a wreath at the monument to Cuba’s national hero, Jose Marti, and visited Cuba’s first Russian Orthodox church – the Church of the Holy Mother of God in honour of the Kazan icon of the Mother of God, consecrated and opened in October 2008.
After visiting the church, Mr Medvedev and Mr Castro went for a short excursion through Havana’s old district.
Mr Medvedev also met with the press and answered questions on the outcome of his visits to Latin American countries. Over the last few days, the President has visited Peru, Brazil and Venezuela.
