The Russian President thanked Mr Fox for his invitation to participate in the tenth summit of the APEC member countries in Los Cabos, Mexico, to be held on October 26–27, 2002.
The message read, in part:
“Russia attaches great importance to APEC’s activities. Today this is a unique mechanism for conducting a dialogue between member countries, coordinating their positions on key economic, trade and investment issues and promoting economic and technical cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. I am sure that on a broader plane, the work of this forum creates conditions for the onward conflict-free development of the whole region and the solution of the economic, social, ecological and other problems that have accumulated there. We intend to increase Russia’s participation in the working bodies and programmes of this forum and to contribute to the economic integration in the Asia-Pacific region.
“We believe that the APEC summit in Los Cabos will help to expand economic ties between Russia and the Latin American APEC members, especially with Mexico.”
