The Russian President arrived in Kyrgyzstan to inspect the Russian airbase and take part in an investment forum. He was accompanied by Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov and Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov.
During the meeting, Mr Putin told Mr Akayev that a representative Russian delegation had arrived to take part in the investment forum. Trade between the two countries had grown by 29% during the year and Russian investments in Kyrgyzstan were increasing.
President Putin and President Akayev were present at the signing of the intergovernmental agreement on the procedure of interaction when exporting military products to third countries. Under the agreement, Kyrgyzstan and Russia commit themselves to joint actions in foreign markets without creating obstacles for each other.
In addition, a protocol was signed on the completion of bilateral talks on Russia’s accession into the World Trade Organisation.
Mr Putin also presented Russian state decorations to several cultural workers in Kyrgyzstan. In particular, the Order of Friendship was presented to Mairam Akayev, the wife of the Kyrgyz President, who is the chairperson of the MEERIM international fund supporting mothers and children.
