President Putin said he was satisfied with the results of his trip. Kyrgyzstan is a strategic partner of Russia and the visit was important for the development of relations in the security and counterterrorism, business and humanitarian spheres, the President said.
The opening of the Russian airbase at Kant was a highlight of the visit. Asked about the proximity of the base to the airbase of the counter-terrorist coalition at Manas Airport, the President stressed that Russia supported the efforts of the international community in combating terrorism in Afghanistan and the efforts of the American partners. He also expressed appreciation towards the US President for his consistent and tough position in combating terror in the world. The Manas base, the Russian President noted, supports the operations in Afghanistan, while the Russian base at Kant aims to ensure the security of Kyrgyzstan and the interests of the CSTO countries in their zone of responsibility, including Russia.
