Mayors from over 50 major cities of the world gathered at the conference.
In the war on terrorism it is necessary to mobilise all resources of the state, society and citizens, said President Vladimir Putin at the closing ceremony of the Third international conference “Diplomacy of cities” of mayors of world cities.
Anti-terrorist cooperation must be developed in all areas and at all levels – international, national, including municipal levels.
It is the residents of large cities that are the main targets for terrorist attacks. The front line of this war may pass through ever street and every home. There is no home front and no neutral zones in this war. In places where terrorists do not meet the necessary opposition, their bases and coordinating centres appear.
President Putin admitted that the measures taken so far have not been adequate to the scale and destructive potential of international terrorism, which undermines the very foundations of civilisation. Terrorism can only be conquered if the entire international community truly combines its efforts, Mr Putin stressed.
