Mr Putin was met at the main entrance to the palace by Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula Da Silva. A military orchestra played the two countries’ national anthems and a 21-gun salute was fired in Mr Putin’s honour.
The ceremony was followed by talks between the two Presidents.
Mr Putin spoke positively of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum summit that had just taken place in Chile and said it was very constructive. The President passed on to his Brazilian counterpart greetings from practically all the forum’s participants.
Talks then continued with the two countries’ delegations taking part.
Mr Putin thanked Mr Lula Da Silva for the warm and hospitable welcome he had offered.
The President noted that his visit aimed at deepening bilateral relations between the two countries and he also spoke in favour of diversifying Russian-Brazilian ties.
