Russia – a long-standing participant of the Hannover fair – is participating for the first time this year as the main guest with the status of “Partner country”. The President sees this as an acknowledgement of the level of Russian industry, science and technology.

Energy, rocket and ship construction, and optic electronics are the dominant industries which Russia is presenting at the Hannover fair, said Mr Putin, opening the Russian pavilion.

The President said he was sure that the fair would allow Russian firms and companies to establish direct contacts with their foreign colleagues, and to make new contracts.

The leaders of the two countries inspected the Russian exhibition at the international trade fair. During their inspection of the St. Petersburg stand, Mr Putin and Mr Schroeder made a virtual trip with the aid of new-generation computer simulator. This unique Russian simulator makes it possible to train future pilots, captains of ocean liners and space ships in navigation and other skills with the utmost effectiveness. Russian engineers have created a space system with no world equivalents, including software and original components. And this does not just involve passive training, which is familiar to most people from computer games, but in immersing the trainee in a virtual three-dimensional space, forcing the “pilot” to interact with the interactive environment.

Mr Putin and Mr Schroeder also visited the stand of Russian aviation industry companies. The leaders’ attention was attracted by a model of an RRJ regional plane. Major interest was shown in a model of the multi-purpose Be-200 amphibian plane, created by the Irkut corporation.

At the Robototekhnika Company stand, Vladimir Putin and Gerhard Schroeder were shown robots which can find and liquidate sources of radioactive contamination both in space and on earth. The guests were also shown lasers created at Akademgorodok in Novosibirsk. This is a fundamentally new laser which is more powerful than previously existing lasers.

At the Gazprom Company stand, the Russian President said that cooperation between major Russian and German gas producers is a fundamentally new form of work, and together they predict and develop gas fields in Russia, and also in third countries. This form of work makes it possible to predict the development of the gas industry and the situation with this form of fuel on the European market.

Mr Schroeder and Mr Putin devoted a considerable amount of time to developers from the Ural company Avista, which produces materials for the air and space industry.

At the Russian Defence Export stand, the guests were shown a mini-robot for underwater exploration. The robot has a remote-control system from the land and can be successfully used in extreme situation to determine ship breakages or other work at a depth of up to 50 metres. Equipment was also shown for biometric passport systems.
