The heads of state discussed pressing international problems and paid special attention to the situation in the Middle East. Both parties emphasized the need to coordinate the international community's actions with respect to providing humanitarian, financial and political assistance to the improve situation in the Middle East and encourage the settlement process.
Vladimir Putin and Jacques Chirac also exchanged opinions on issues concerning the preparation of the meeting between the heads of state and government of the G8 member states in St Petersburg.
