The anniversary forum which will last until 15 June 2006 is taking place in a new format and will discuss topical themes concerning the global economy – the modern challenges of globalization, the competitive advantages of developing countries, the general economic development tendencies in Russia, Brazil, India and China, as well as new methods for investment policy.
Over three thousand people will participate in the Forum and a number of round tables and exhibitions on the most important innovative projects are planned.
In the context of the 10th St Petersburg Economic Forum a Memorandum on construction of a car factory between Russian Trade and Economic Ministry and Nissan Company was signed.
Russia is one of the world’s leaders when measured by economic growth, something that ensures a stable inflow of investments into the national economy, Vladimir Putin declared at the opening of the 10th Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum. The total volume of foreign investments in the Russian economy has attained the 112 billion dollar mark.
In the head of state’s opinion, Russia’s full participation in global cooperation will help resolve various global problems, including prevent the destabilization of the international financial system and also mitigate the significant differences between the development of the world’s richest and poorest countries.
First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev presented an analytical report on Russia’s economic development outlook and its role in the world economy in the era of globalisation.
Mr Medvedev named several competitive advantages that can help Russia become a leader in different sectors of the world economy. They include, firstly, the inherent creativity of Russia’s people that can make the country one of the world’s intellectual leaders, secondly, abundant natural resources, and thirdly, Russia’s unique geopolitical situation.
