Vladimir Putin met with George W. Bush in the Konstantinovskii Palace in Strelna

Joint press conference following talks with U. S. President George W. Bush.

The heads of state had a private meeting and then were joined by both countries’ delegations.

Vladimir Putin and George W. Bush discussed various aspects of bilateral relations, topical questions on the international agenda, including the Iranian nuclear programme, the situation in the Middle East, on the Korean peninsula, and issues with respect to settling persistent conflicts in regions next to Russia.

Following the meeting the presidents of the two countries gave a joint press conference. Vladimir Putin emphasized that talks with George W. Bush took place in a very well-intentioned and constructive atmosphere.

The Russian President also declared that Russia will continue negotiations with the WTO continuing to defend its national interests.

The Russian head of state expressed his confidence that the agreements reached during this meeting will act as a good basis for the G8 summit in St Petersburg.

Following the talks the two heads of state adopted a joint statement announcing the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism and a joint statement on developing nuclear energy.
