Mr Putin congratulated Mr Berdymukhammedov on his confident victory in Turkmenistan’s presidential election.
The two leaders expressed their mutual interest in giving a new boost to relations between the two countries in various fields.
Mr Putin also sent a message to Mr Berdymukhammedov, congratulating him on his election victory.
The President’s message reads, in particular:
“Your convincing victory in the election bears witness to the high level of confidence the people of Turkmenistan have in you. I am sure that the election campaign that has just taken place and the consolidation of Turkmenistan society are an important step in developing your country and strengthening its influence on the international stage.
The Russian Federation has always been and will always be a reliable friend for Turkmenistan. We place great value on the steady development of equal and mutually beneficial cooperation between our countries, cooperation based not only on our rich traditions of friendship and mutual respect but built also on a solid foundation of pragmatic trade and economic ties, including in the energy sector.
I am sure that relations between our countries will continue to develop fruitfully for the benefit of our peoples and in the interest of peace and stability in the Central Asian region. Further expansion of our bilateral ties at all levels will facilitate this process”.
