The two leaders’ meeting took place in the Green Room at the Grand Kremlin Palace. Following their one-on-one meeting, Mr Putin and Mr Klaus were joined by the members of their delegations.

The deployment of elements of the U.S. missile defence system on Czech territory was one of the main subjects of discussion at the talks. Also discussed were trade and economic relations between the two countries, energy security issues, and Russia’s relations with the European Union. Developing humanitarian contacts was the focus of particular attention.

The following bilateral agreements were signed after the talks: an agreement on organising repairs and modernisation of Mi-24 and Mi171Sh helicopters on Czech territory; an agreement on mutual protection of intellectual property in the context of bilateral military-technical cooperation; a protocol to the Convention on Avoiding Double Taxation and Prevention Income and Capital Tax Evasion of November 17, 1995; a cooperation programme between the two countries’ Ministries of Culture for 2007–2009; an agreement between the administration of Bashkortostan, the Czech Export Bank and Mat Minerals Company on support for an investment project to build a constructions materials production plant; an additional agreement to the framework agreement of May 2, 2005 between Uralvagonzavod and Alta Company on delivery of technical equipment for the reconstruction and modernisation of Uralvagonzavod’s production facilities; and a memorandum on cooperation between Vnesheconombank and the Czech Export Bank on developing mechanisms for using international capital market instruments for expanding reciprocal investment cooperation.

Mr Putin and Mr Klaus made press statements following the signature of the bilateral agreements.
