Vladimir Putin met with Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski

The discussion dealt with the situation on the Balkans, in particular Macedonia.

Boris Trajkovski named Kosovo as the main reason for the critical situation in the region. He thanked Vladimir Putin for the role Russia was playing in the Balkan settlement.

Appearing before journalists after the meeting, Vladimir Putin said that it was not rebels but terrorists, that is people with aggressive intentions seeking to reshape the map of Europe, who were resisting the international community on the Balkan Peninsula.

Those who are trying to resolve political problems by force should realize that they are to face the world community using real rather than dummy force, said the Russian President. In his opinion, Macedonia can see revival only if the legitimate demands of the people inhabiting the region are met.

Mr Putin believes that the use of force in Macedonia for solving its problems is admissible only with the permission of the UN Security Council.

Meanwhile, Russia is supporting UN efforts to disarm terrorists in this region.
