Mr Putin declared the need to develop the Kamchatka Region’s potential based on systemic decisions appropriate to the current situation.
The President said that the federal targeted programme, An Energy-efficient Economy, has enabled the region to overcome a chronic energy crisis, change its electricity supply structure and bring additional production capacity on line.
Mr Putin noted the progress made in education and healthcare in the region but said that a lot of problems still remain, among them the issue of subsidies from the federal budget, the high level of unemployment and underdeveloped transport and communications networks.
The President also noted the need to make the fisheries sector – an important sector for the region’s natural resources – more effective.
