Mr Poltavchenko reported to the President that the social and economic situation in the city is stable, gross regional product is growing, while capital investment has increased by 12 percent compared to the same period last year. The city has adopted a development strategy until 2030 based on knowledge economics, with due account of St Petersburg’s potential in science and technology. The city has developed 17 programmes for the implementation of this strategy.
Mr Poltavchenko requested that the President relieve him of his duties as Governor ahead of term to make it possible for him to take part in the gubernatorial elections scheduled for September 2014. He explained this request by his wish to secure the voters’ support for his plans.
