Outstanding scientists, including Igor Kurchatov, Yakov Zeldovich and Andrei Sakharov, worked here. The results of their hard work formed the basis of a number of unique technologies and ensured our country's leading position in nuclear energy.
Today the Centre continues to develop these rich scientific traditions, contributing to the consolidation of Russia’s intellectual potential, addresses the issue of improving national security and makes a major contribution to the modernisation of the country's economy.”
Russian Federal Nuclear Centre – The All-Russian Research Institute of Experimental Physics (RFNC – VNIIEF) was founded in 1946 to implement the Soviet Atomic Project. The first Soviet atomic and H-bombs were developed here.
