The President's congratulatory telegram reads, in part:
“Over the years the museum has become a major Russian research and educational centre devoted to Mikhail Lermontov and his work. Thanks to painstaking work museum employees have been able to gather a great deal of resources and recreate in detail the conditions in which the great poet lived and worked.
Thanks to Tarkhany's rich exhibitions, unique architecture and park, and impressive tourist programme, the museum's visitors benefit from the rare opportunity to get acquainted with the life of noble estates of the 18th-19th centuries, to imbibe the atmosphere of the Golden Age of Russian literature and, of course, take part in the famous Russia-wide Lermontov celebrations.”
National Lermontov Museum Reserve Tarkhany is a unique historical and cultural monument of national importance. Tarkhany is a rich repository of unique and rare items from manor life in the 18th to early 19th centuries containing furniture, dishes, paintings, decorative arts, sculptures, and collections of books.
Since its opening the museum is the largest Russian research and education centre devoted to Lermontov.
