The Russian Aerospace Forces, with the support of Navy ships stationed in the Mediterranean Sea, carried out missile strikes on terrorist strongholds outside the town of Deir ez-Zor.
The air strikes caused damage to the infrastructure, underground utility lines and ammunition stores of terrorists, which allowed the Syrian government troops to launch an offensive and break the siege of the town.
Vladimir Putin noted the importance of this strategic victory in terms of liberating Syria from ISIS and congratulated the command of the Russian military group, as well as the command of the Syrian government troops, on this accomplishment.
President Putin sent a message to President of the Syrian Arab Republic Bashar al-Assad, in which he highly praised this strategic victory and offered congratulations on this important step on the way to liberating Syria from terrorism.
