The message reads, in part:
“Building on the rich traditions of the All-Union Chemistry Olympiad for schoolchildren, first held in our country in 1967, the Mendeleev Olympiad has gained international recognition and greatly expanded its geographical reach. Today, it is rightly regarded as a respected educational and outreach event that brings together talented young people from many countries. I would like to note that the current, jubilee contest is being held within the framework of the Decade of Science and Technology in Russia.
I am confident that the participants of the 60th International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad will remember it for its atmosphere of genuine comradely competition and as a celebration of knowledge and friendly communication inspiring bold, innovative ideas, promising support for talented young people, and promoting an interest in chemistry, international humanitarian dialogue and personal contacts.”
