The message reads, in part:
“Created at the initiative of representatives of publishing houses, trade companies, printing and paper-making enterprises, libraries, and writers’ organisations a quarter of a century ago, the Union makes a significant contribution to preserving the best traditions of our culture and literature and to keeping up the interest in literature, reading, and creativity in society and among children and youth. Let me also note the considerable expert and unifying potential of your regular congresses that are venues for a meaningful dialogue on developing the book industry, strengthening cooperation between the authorities and businesses in this area, and drafting important legislative initiatives. Proposals are also advanced on how to address these matters based on the best Russian and foreign practices.”
