With Director of Federal Security Service Alexander Bortnikov.

Director of Federal Security Service Alexander Bortnikov: Today, the Federal Security Service conducted a special operation that resulted in the capture of one of the leaders of the North Caucasus criminal underground, a man named Taziyev, also known by the alias ‘Magas’.

In 2004, together with Shamil Basayev, this bandit organised the attack on Nazran. He was also involved in organising the bombing of two public buses in Stavropol Territory and was involved in the kidnapping of former President of Ingushetia Zyazikov’s relatives. In 2009, he organised the bombing of the Ministry of the Interior building in Nazran, which resulted in the deaths of many law enforcement officers, and was involved with the assassination attempt on President of Ingushetia Yunus-Bek Yevkurov.

This bandit has been on the federal wanted list since 2004, active search operations have been carried out, and today, following a special raid, he was captured. The investigative department of the Federal Security Service is now investigating all the crimes committed by Taziyev.

We have received the criminal case materials for undertaking further procedures. I will regularly report to you on the investigation progress.

President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev: Very well, we will need to do everything necessary to properly record the statements by this bandit, to ensure that all the necessary procedures are taken and that as a result, all the crimes he committed receive a proper award by the court.

This operation has ended with good results. Please congratulate all the FSB officers who participated in this operation on my behalf, and if you deem it necessary, make proposals on awards to be presented.
