Director General of Peterhof State Museum (of which Oranienbaum is a branch), Yelena Kalnitskaya, conducted a guided tour of the palace's inner rooms for the honoured guests. Svetlana Medvedeva and Georgy Poltavchenko visited the museum's new exhibitions, which include interactive and three-dimensional installations.
The guests also saw original items from Peter the Great's era, spears and uniforms of the Russian Army's Preobrazhensky Regiment, and 18th century furniture sets which had been stored in Peterhof's repositories.
The First Lady was interested in the restoration of the rooms themselves and of the items contained in palace interiors, as well as the authenticity of materials used in the restoration process.
After the tour Svetlana Medvedeva and Georgy Poltavchenko attended the unveiling of a monument at Oranienbaum Palace, a sculpture of a bitter orange tree with fruit. Mrs Medvedeva and Mr Poltavchenko removed the cover from the monument, following which the Preobrazhensky March was played in honour of Oranienbaum's first owner, Alexander Menshikov.
