The First Lady of Russia and the Queen of Spain learned about the centre’s work: the centre offers Russian language lessons to adults and children, it has an open library, hosts concerts by Russian performers, and also maintains e-branches of the Russian Museum and the State Hermitage. The showroom currently displays the Calico Russia exposition from the Moscow Museum of Decorative, Applied and Folk Art, and the Journey to Russia exhibition from the Moscow House of Photography. A concert by Russian musicians and singers was given to mark the centre’s opening.
Later, a gala concert took place at the Teatro Real (the Royal Theatre) in Madrid with participation of Russian ballet stars.
The following day, Mrs Medvedeva took part in a ceremony of blessing the cornerstone of an Orthodox church in Madrid and presented the future church with a gift: the icon of the Entry of the Most Holy Theotokos into the Temple.
