Dmitry Medvedev had at his initiative a telephone conversation with President of the Republic of Korea Lee Myung-bak.
Mr Medvedev congratulated Mr Lee on his 70th birthday and expressed his best wishes.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the current level of relations between the two countries, including in light of Mr Lee’s recent visit to Russia and the bilateral summit that saw the conclusion of a number of agreements.
The two presidents discussed cooperation and coordination in international affairs, including regional integration and stability issues.
Mr Medvedev also sent Mr Lee a telegram of congratulations, in which he said, in particular:
“You are an influential politician who is doing much to keep developing the Republic of Korea’s economic potential and raise its authority on the international stage.
I particularly note your contribution to strengthening Russian-Korean ties, your commitment to dialogue, and your efforts to promote a constructive agenda at the bilateral level and in international affairs.
I value the relations that we have built between us. I have warm recollections of our meeting in St Petersburg in November and your participation in the second Russia-Republic of Korea Dialogue forum.
I place great value on our work together to continue expanding and developing our diverse cooperation. I am sure that this work is in the interests of our peoples and will serve the cause of peace and development in northeast Asia.”
