The Agreement was signed in Dushanbe on September 2, 2011.
The purpose of the Agreement is to ensure security for the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan in border affairs.
The Agreement reflects the Russian side’s position on various fundamental issues. In particular, it envisages the preservation of a Russian presence in the Republic of Tajikistan as part of the Cross-Border Cooperation Group, as well as cooperation in countering terrorism, regional extremism, illegal migration and transnational organised crime. It also details the participation of Russian representatives in improving the state border protection mechanisms and operational support for the Republic of Tajikistan’s border security, in training Tajikistan’s boarder guarding personnel and specialists.
The Agreement does not interfere with Russia and Tajikistan’s rights and obligations under other international agreements which they are parties to.
