Mr Putin and Ms Albright discussed topical issues of bilateral relations and the international agenda.
They focused on the entire range of disarmament problems, including strategic offensive arms and missile defence, and reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation in nuclear non-proliferation.
The discussion also included the prospects for developing trade and economic relations between the two countries. Ms Albright confirmed the US government’s readiness to help develop the positive changes in the Russian economy that appeared last year.
The acting president and the secretary of state spoke highly of the results of the latest conference on the Middle East.
The two parties also discussed issues related to the fight against international terrorism. Mr Putin briefed Ms Albright on the situation in the North Caucasus. The acting president emphasised that Russia advocated a political solution to the Chechen conflict and was ready for a dialogue with everyone who had not been involved in serious crimes.
The meeting lasted for nearly three hours.
