The message reads, in part:

Your fruitful teaching, organisational and public work, to which you always give the utmost attention, merit our sincere respect. You are a true Russian patriot and never cease to prove this through your work and your devoted service to our country.”
Zhores Alferov is vice president of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a State Duma deputy, and winner of the 2000 Nobel Prize in physics for his fundamental work on semiconductor heterostructures, which laid the base for modern information technologies.
