The message reads, in part:
“Representatives of 160 states have gathered in Khanty-Maniisk, where the world's leading chess players are to demonstrate their skill and strength of character in the battle for the title of the best, while the delegates of the national federations will discuss professional issues and elect FIDE leaders for the next four years. Holding such a representative meeting in Russia is another confirmation of our national chess school’s excellent reputation.
I am confident that the outcome of the 39th World Chess Olympics and 81st FIDE Congress will serve to boost the popularity of chess and further development of sports contacts as an important part of international cooperation.”
Chess Olympics are held every two years. The 39th World Chess Olympics will be held between September 20 and October 4, 2010 in Khanty-Mansiisk, the capital of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area — Yugra, West Siberia.
