The telegram reads, in part:
“For many centuries, relations between our peoples have been based on sincere mutual interest and trust. We are united in our desire to better know one another through deep historical traditions and a rich spiritual heritage. Large-scale events held as part of the Year of Russian Culture and Language in Italy and the Year of Italian Culture and Language in Russia are intended to contribute to broader bilateral humanitarian ties.
On June 12, we are marking our national holiday, Russia Day. It is symbolic that on this very day, Italian viewers have the opportunity to become acquainted with the unique diversity of our nation’s creative traditions and see performances by renowned musical and dance groups that represent the multifaceted Russian culture.
I am certain that this festival will serve to further strengthen friendly relations between our peoples and open up new opportunities for further developing Russian-Italian cooperation in many areas.”
