The amendments make it possible to process the personal data of people who come under the provisions of the international agreements on readmission to which the Russian Federation is a party.
International practice shows that in most cases people liable for readmission do not wish to return to the country that is supposed to take them back and refuse to cooperate with immigration officers. Obtaining such people’s consent to process their personal data is extremely difficult in practice.
The amendments to the Federal Law on Personal Data make it possible to process the personal data of individuals who come under readmission provisions without having to obtain their consent, which will enable the Russian Federation to be more effective in fulfilling its obligations under international agreements in this area.
