The message reads, in part:
“Throughout these years, the Russian Union of Afghanistan Veterans has united in its ranks courageous and brave people tempered by hardships: servicemen, civilian specialists, medical workers, all those who did their duty with honour as part of the Limited Contingent of Soviet Troops in Afghanistan, who under the toughest conditions displayed top professional and human qualities, unbendable power of spirit, compassion and generosity.
It is important that you remain loyal to the unbreakable combat brotherhood, take an active part in the country’s life, support the families of your comrades who were killed in action or passed away, and successfully run charity, volunteer and educational projects, laying special emphasis on patriotic upbringing of the youth. Many Afghanistan veterans are still in the ranks today; they continue to honourably serve in the army, law enforcement agencies and in executive government bodies.
My best wishes to you and all internationalist soldiers on the anniversary of the Russian Union of Afghanistan Veterans.”
