The evening took place at the Moscow Art Theatre, which bears the writer’s name. It was the Moscow Art Theatre’s troupe, headed by Konstantin Stanislavsky and Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko, who helped Anton Chekhov win worldwide fame as a playwright.
Accompanied by Artistic Director of the Moscow Art Theatre Oleg Tabakov, theatre historian Anatoly Smelyansky, and Minister of Culture Alexander Avdeyev, the First Lady visited an exhibition, The Art Theatre and Chekhov.
The actual anniversary of Chekhov’s birth falls on January 29, but a programme of events will be taking place throughout this anniversary year.
