The Government of the Russian Federation, together with the Moscow Region Government and the Foundation for the Preservation, Restoration and Development of the Historical Image of Sergiyev Posad in the Moscow Region has been tasked with considering the implementation of several socioeconomic development projects for Sergiyev Posad as a national spiritual centre and a world-class tourist destination . These projects are to be implemented between 2024 and 2030 and funded by the federal budget, the budget of the Moscow Region, including through state programmes of the Russian Federation, as well as extra-budgetary sources.
Among the socioeconomic development projects mentioned are the construction and reconstruction of water supply systems and drainage systems, energy infrastructure facilities, stormwater drainage systems, the relocation of state and municipal agencies from the historical part of the city, comprehensive improvement within the boundaries of the historical community and the construction of healthcare facilities for relocating several medical organisations from the historical part of Sergiyev Posad.
The instructions stipulate the construction of a convention centre with a seating capacity for 2,400 people, a missionary building, a building of the Orthodox Art Museum with the exhibition titled Siege of the Monastery in 1608–1610, a building for the Pavel Florensky Russian Philosophical Thinkers Museum, a building for storing files of the Sergiyev Posad State Historical and Artistic Museum-Reserve and its exhibition centre, the reconstruction of the museum’s main building, as well as the reconstruction and restoration of several valuable historical and cultural landmarks. It is necessary to upgrade some of them for accommodating a science and education centre and a dormitory for students of the Moscow Theological Academy, as well as the St Sergius of Radonezh Orthodox Gymnasium and other education organisations and military-patriotic children’s associations.
The instructions also provide for the establishment of a federal-level science and education cluster, the construction of a universal sports complex with an artificial ice rink and the construction of a multifunctional sports complex.
The Government of the Russian Federation and the Moscow Region Government have been given relevant specific instructions.
Russian Railways and the Moscow Region Government are to implement, between 2024 and 2030, the main projects aimed at the socioeconomic development of Sergiyev Posad as a national spiritual centre and a world-class tourist destination. This includes the relocation of Russian Railways’ freight terminal from the city’s historical section and construction of a new railway station building.
