In his speech at the event the President said that the programme to provide the country’s armed forces with modern arms and military equipment calls for a high level of professionalism from officers, and this is why improving military education has become such a priority today.
The country’s military education system is being brought into line with today’s demand for qualified officers. Graduates of military universities will have the task of making Russia’s armed forces modern and mobile, and must therefore acquire knowledge not only to meet today’s demands but to prepare the future as well, the President said.
Professional knowledge is only one component of an officer’s success, Mr Medvedev said. Also important are his inner state and strength, and his ability to resolve difficult tasks, uphold the moral climate in the Armed Forces, strengthen discipline and create fighting spirit. These qualities have always distinguished the Russian Armed Forces, the President said.
