The Federal Agency for Information Technology (Rosinformtekhnologii) was established in 2004 under the supervision of the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media. Its responsibilities included the management of public property and the provision of state services in information technology, including those related to the use of information technology for the creation of state information resources and access to them. Rosinformtekhnologii was also an authorised federal executive body in the use of digital signature.

Dmitry Medvedev signed Executive Order On Improving State Management in the Sphere of Information Technology, disbanding Federal Agency for Information Technology (Rosinformtekhnologii), whose functions have been transferred to the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media.
