While learning about how the famous Azerbaijani carpets are made, Svetlana Medvedeva emphasised that “it is important to maintain this cultural heritage for future generations”.
Azerbaijani carpets with geometrical and floral patterns are exhibited in many museums around the world. Accompanied by First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva, Svetlana Medvedeva toured an exhibition of antique carpets made over one hundred years ago.
Svetlana Medvedeva also visited the Modern Art Museum in Baku, which was created on the initiative of the First Lady of Azerbaijan who personally gave her a tour of the museum’s exhibits numbering over one thousand works by both well-known and young Azerbaijani painters and sculptors. Among the most valued exhibits are works by Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso, and Salvador Dali.
Svetlana Medvedeva and Mehriban Aliyeva discussed the topic of preserving cultural heritage at their meeting at the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, which is headed by Azerbaijan’s First Lady. Svetlana Medvedeva, who heads the Russian Foundation for Social and Cultural Initiatives, and Mehriban Aliyeva are engaged in similar activities of charity, philanthropy and implementation of major humanitarian and social projects.
Svetlana Medvedeva and Mehriban Aliyeva agreed to expand contacts between the foundations they chair, noting that philanthropic efforts should be accompanied by promoting national cultures of the two countries.
