As head of the Foundation for Social and Cultural Initiatives and the Board of Trustees of the targeted integrated programme Spiritual And Moral Culture of the Younger Generation, the First Lady attended the first forum of the national programme The Sanctity of Motherhood.
The forum brought together over one thousand delegates, members of public organisations and movements from 53 Russian regions and around the world. The need to adopt the national programme The Sanctity of Motherhood is dictated by the demographic crisis. It is designed to unite people involved in social projects aimed at protecting mothers and children.
Addressing the forum participants, Svetlana Medvedeva said Russia’s happy and dignified future largely depends on strong and loving families, which makes the state’s care for the future mothers and large families particularly important. Support for mothers is our shared duty, our duty to future generations, to the nation and to God, stressed the First Lady.
Svetlana Medvedeva said that in the vast majority of cases, women choose to terminate pregnancies for social rather than medical reasons, and it is imperative for the state to help women keep their babies, dispelling their doubts. Most importantly, at the time when women make vitally important decisions they must not feel alone; they must feel confident that they have the support of the state, their family and society, Svetlana Medvedeva said in her address.
The First Lady also congratulated everyone on the forthcoming Mother’s Day.
