The Federal Law is aimed at resolving problems pertaining to the absence of funding for reburying the remains of fallen Soviet (Russian) service members found by foreign search parties on their nations’ territories. At this time, Russia’s Foreign Ministry is not given funding for this purpose.
The law stipulates amending the Russian Federation’s Law On Perpetuating the Memory of Those Who Died Defending the Fatherland, allowing Russia’s Foreign Ministry to ensure the maintenance and improvement of military burials through the Russian Federation’s diplomatic missions and consular posts, and to organise the reburial of the remains of fallen defenders of the Fatherland found abroad.
