Police lieutenant Zaur Dzhibilov has been awarded the title of Hero of Russia posthumously for courage and heroism in the line of duty.
In October 2012, traffic police inspector with the North Ossetian Interior Ministry Zaur Dzhibilov stopped a car for inspection while on duty at the Kizlyar traffic post. However, the driver tried to drive past without stopping. Zaur Dzhibilov stepped in front of the car to block it, closed the barrier and triggered an alarm. At this time the perpetrator detonated an explosive device located in the trunk of his car. Zaur Dzhibilov sacrificed his own life to save his colleagues and prevented a terrorist attack on the territory of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania.
