The Agreement was signed in San Salvador on August 22, 2011, and is the first interstate agreement between the Russian Federation and El Salvador since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1992.
The Agreement is a framework document that aims to develop mutually advantageous bilateral cooperation in the political, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian and other spheres on the basis of the universal principles and norms of international law.
The Agreement reflects the two countries’ desire to develop science and technology cooperation, above all in high-tech sectors, and to exchange information between scientists and scientific organisations in both countries.
The Agreement’s provisions commit both countries to working together to fight transnational crime in accordance with bilateral and multilateral international agreements in this area, to which the two countries are parties.
Under the Agreement, the two countries also undertake to develop bilateral cooperation in culture, the arts, education, healthcare, mass media, tourism, and sport.
