The Federal Law introduced stricter punishment for crimes covered by Articles 280, 282, 2821 and 2822 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
Thus, longer terms of imprisonment and forced labour, as well as higher fines are introduced for public statements calling for extremist activities; for inciting hatred or enmity, as well as abasement of human dignity on the basis of sex, race, nationality, language, religion or social status; also for the establishment of and participation in extremist organisations or in the activities of organisations liquidated by a court ruling on the grounds of extremist activities.
