Marius Petipa was a principal dancer, choreographer, theatre professional and instructor. Born in France, Marius Petipa worked in Russia beginning in 1847, where ballet art in the second half of the 19th century is typically referred to as “Petipa’s ballet.” Many of his productions remain in the modern repertoire as outstanding examples of choreographic legacy.
