In accordance with the Executive Order, the Government has been instructed to establish 10 personal scholarships named for Yevgeny Primakov, for students at Moscow State University’s Faculty of Economics and the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), starting in 2016.
The President also asked the Government to consider giving Mr Primakov’s name to one of the Russian naval ships currently under construction.
Yevgeny Primakov (1929–2015) was a Soviet and Russian politician and statesman. He was Prime Minister of the Russian Federation (1998–1999), Russian Foreign Minister (1996–1998), Head of the USSR Central Intelligence Service (1991), Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (1991–1996), and Chairman of the Union Council of the USSR Supreme Soviet (1989–1990). Mr Primakov was also a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and a prominent scholar in the fields of oriental studies and economics.
